2025 Nutshell Games

The Nutshell Games are a free, and open to the public competition put on by the Virginia Tech Center for Communicating Science. 30 PhD students presented their research in 90 seconds or less in front of a crowd on the main stage at the Moss Arts Center. My talk was on fly poison, a native Appalachian wildflower that apparently is loved by invasive mosquitoes!

I have a flair for the dramatic. Props are allowed in the competition and I chose to "become" my study species.

Watch my talk! It was professionally recorded as a part of the event.

I have never had a fear of public speaking, but this was a little daunting! The view from the stage was formidable.
